BIE has established a major partnership with the Omar Dengo Foundation in San Juan, Costa Rica. Our collaborative work includes helping prepare a nationwide cadre of technology facilitators to introduce Project Based Learning to the teachers they support, and translating the BIE PBL Handbook into Spanish. The Omar Dengo Foundation is the authorized representative for BIE professional development activities in Latin America.
BIE also collaborated with the Oracle Education Foundation to conduct “21st Century Learning Institutes” in California, Singapore and South Aftica. Participants in these Institutes have led subsequent proressional development workshops in Brazil, India, Australia, Egypt and Malaysia.
BIE staff have conducted Project Based Learning professional development presentations and workshops for teachers and Ministry of Education staff in Brazil, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Jordan, Mexico, Peru and Canada. At the University of Northern Malaysia, BIE introduced instructors from multiple academic disciplines to Project Based Learning, and these individuals have taken the lead in working with others to revise required courses across academic departments and faculties to follow a Project Based approach.
BIE has a continuing partnership with the Pariba project at the Guaratingeta campus of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and BIE's Executive Director presented a keynote address on Project Based Learning to a Conference organized for university and high school teachers from Guaratingeta and surrounding areas.
