Shannon is a teacher educator, staff developer, and curriculum writer with a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture, from the University of California, Davis. She began her career in education teaching second grade in a year-round school. Currently, she serves on the clinical faculty of two universities supervising pre-service teachers and teaching elementary methods courses in reading/language arts and technology. Her research interests include, early literacy, research-based reading instruction, English learners, culturally responsive teaching, funds of knowledge perspectives, neuroscience, and social emotional learning—all of which are interwoven in the context of a PBL classroom.

Additionally, Shannon has spent over 15 years in educational publishing developing and writing curricular programs and providing professional development support to classroom teachers across the country. Shannon's extensive background in publishing, along with her doctoral studies and research, ensures that she is steeped in the most current research on effective instructional strategies. Her classroom teaching and supervision experience provides her with the practical knowledge that transforms research into results.
