What theoretical framework and/or research inform instructional design in…

I taught RIP (PBE) to my 12th grade seniors a couple of weeks ago. They loved it!
In my credential program, I was asked this question about the unit I taught.

Briefly describe the theoretical framework and/or research that inform your instructional design for developing your students’ knowledge and abilities in both history-social science and academic language.

Since I did not create this unit, I was wondering if anyone could help me out answering this question. I’m a little stuck.
Thanks
Juan

What would be a good assessment to document?

So as I mentioned in another thread, I taught Running in Place to my seniors last month. For my credential program I had to chose a teaching segment of 3 hours of instruction. I chose to document and film the first three days of this unit. One of the questions I was asked on my Teaching Segment Paper was:

Identify the specific standards/objectives measured by the assessment chosen for analysis. You may just cite the appropriate lesson(s) if you are assessing all of the standards/objectives listed.

I also added some supplementary material to help reinforce some of the early concepts and terms I have taught. My question is what would be a good assessment to document? The problem statement? The What we Know? Need to Know charts? I know this unit came with a final assessment, but I did not get to it in my teaching segment for my credential class. I need to chose one assignment and show how I assessed them on it. HELP!
