In charge of program development and dissemination, John oversees all training programs and materials development initiatives at BIE. In addition, he is responsible for forming and managing partnerships with school reform and professional organizations both locally and nationally.
John began his career in education as a high school social science and English teacher. He was a school coach for the Bay Area Coalition of Essential Schools and as a member of the Western Assessment Collaborative at WestEd, he coached schools in the use of standards and assessments to improve instruction. John also developed and presented workshops for teachers on standards-based practice in preparation for the CA High School Exit Exam and contributed to the writing of Aiming High: High Schools for the 21st Century, the CA State Department of Education's blueprint for high school reform.
John received his B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University, his M.A. in Educational Technology and Educational Administration from San Francisco State University. He also holds a secondary teaching credential in social sciences.
