Community Voices: An Immersive Project Based Learning Experience

Presented by BIE's Executive Director, Bob Lenz and Senior Director of Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, Rody Boonchouy

Wednesday, March 8
11:00AM - 5:00PM
JW Marriott - Salon G

Participants will experience a full day, immersive Project Based Learning unit from the stance of a learner to understand the transformative nature of learning by doing, and reflect on the implications of teaching practice and curriculum design when using PBL. In this project “slice,” participants will assume the role of community planners, working together in teams to explore the local and cultural context of Austin, develop a digital interpretation of their findings, and craft a proposed vision for the future of the city. Participants are highly encouraged to arrive promptly at start time and commit to a full day for the experience. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking.

Learning & Leading in a Project-Based World

Panel discussion featuring BIE's Chief Program Officer, Brandon Wiley

Wednesday, March 8
3:30PM - 4:30PM
Hilton Austin Downtown - Salon J

Project work will dominate careers of today's students. Explore the implications for preparing students for a relationship economy through the lens of teaching and learning through projects. What does equitable preparation for students look like in a project-based world? How is high-tech and high-quality project-based learning (PBL) promoting deeper learning outcomes for all students? There will be a spirited moderator and an empty chair next to three edleaders. Join the group of edleader panelists at anytime to bring in big ideas! Then it’s the audience’s turn for interactive Q & A. Leave with new ways of thinking about learning and leading in a project-based world.
