Rich Lehrer National Faculty
A veteran middle school STEM teacher, Rich taught in public schools in Canada and American international schools in both Venezuela and Brazil before moving to the U.S. eight years ago. He currently teaches 8th grade science and 6th grade global studies at Brookwood School in Massachusetts, where he also co-led a school-wide PBL faculty professional development initiative from 2012-2014.
A firm believer in the transformative power of authentic global PBL experiences for students and teachers, Rich is also the Educational Exchange Coordinator for e-NABLE, a community of designers, makers, engineers, educators, families, and students dedicated to the creation and global dissemination of affordable 3D printed mechanical hands for children in need. Additionally, Rich currently serves as an advisor for WGBH’s web-based global engineering education initiative, “Design Squad Global”, and for the past four years has been working with MIT’s D-Lab to adapt their humanitarian engineering philosophy to a Middle School audience. Rich brings a unique global perspective and a wealth of practical PBL experiences and strategies to his BIE workshop facilitations.
