Teaching with Technology Outcomes in Idaho

In Idaho, larger city schools had more home computing, higher income levels and higher achievement levels than the rest of the state.  After the initiative that was undertaken, small rural schools clearly had more computers per student but still had lower achievement level overall.

This highlights that technology outcomes at school have to be interpreted with an understanding of the larger context including what is happening at home.

The related study (linked below) controls for this general pattern by using standardized gain scores as outcomes. When initial scores were controlled, analyses suggest that technology use at home and at school were associated with improved learning outcomes.
