One of the five Essential PBE units. High school student entrepreneurs in a School-Based Enterprise (SBE) have developed, produced, and marketed a low-calorie avocado. During the course of the next three years, the SBE team analyzes data on sales, revenue, costs and profits to help them convince a venture capitalist to invest, then to fund research and development for a much-needed pesticide. After becoming a monopoly with a patent for the pesticide, the SBE is bought out by a large corporation, which leads to a debate about the pros and cons of competition and monopolies in a free market economy.
