LegiQuest

Students, in the role of lobbyists for an interest group representing young people, are asked to recommend the best path to follow from studying an issue to passing a law. Students must do research, recommend a position, and explain how to pursue legislation at the federal level to address three possible issues – music file sharing, gun control, and the military draft (other, current issues may be substituted by the teacher). In the process, students learn how laws are created as well as what alternative pathways exist to address issues through state legislatures, the courts, or executive orders.
