Integrated & Interdisciplinary PBL
You have begun to master the design process of Project Based Learning and the 8 Essential Elements of PBL are evident in the projects you have planned. That's great! The next step in your PBL journey might be to plan an integrated or interdisciplinary project. You can start by bringing other content areas into your own project, or begin planning projects with your colleagues from other content areas. Learn about successfully implemented integrated/interdisciplinary projects in various subjects and grade levels, and hear about design and management techniques to transform your projects into rich learning experiences for your students. Dayna Laur, BIE National Faculty member and featured teacher from Edutopia's Schools that Work series on integrated studies, will lead this hour long session. [Time: 49:16]
Watch the video »PBL Lead
This webinar focuses on the role of the school leader in supporting the transition to implement Project Based Learning across a school. Participants will learn about the importance of establishing deeply compelling reasons for this instructional shift with staff and your school community. We will also address change forces to consider, strategies to support staff in their implementation, and reflect on how your leadership style impacts change on your campus. Finally, we will discuss how to support teachers in PBL design and implementation through professional development, planning time, and evaluation practices; the development and use of school-wide rubrics and protocols for reflection on project work; and aligning PBL with curricular goals and other programs at the school. Watch the video »PBL Math Webinar
Mathematics is a rich and complex subject filled with real life application. However, due to the pressure of the "test" and the mass amount of material, teachers find themselves getting through the content by lecture and drill. As Dan Meyer says, "The mathematics classroom needs a make over." Telannia Norfar, BIE National Faculty, will take you through Project Based Learning process which combines mastery of mathematics content and communication/collaboration/critical thinking skills. Experience a "made over" mathematics classroom and then understand how to create a classroom make-over. [Time: 29:12]
Watch the video »PBL & Web 2.0 Tools
Choosing the appropriate Web 2.0 tools to support project based learning can be a daunting task. However, integrating the use of these tools into a project can help teachers to effectively facilitate the design, assessment, and management of projects. Join BIE National Faculty member and PA Classrooms for the Future teacher, Dayna Laur, in a free webinar on February 22 to explore a variety of these tools. Hear about several projects that have successfully integrated Web 2.0 tools and start thinking about your own plans to introduce new and effective tools into your next project. [Time: 52:16]
Watch the video »PBL & Edmodo
Edmodo is a social learning platform that allows teachers to post messages, discuss classroom topics, assign and grade classwork, and share content and materials with their students. Watch the video »PBL and Service-Learning
Although many schools require students to participate in community service, this tradition draws mixed reviews. Some students become deeply engaged in volunteer endeavors while others grudgingly track time served. By remodeling community service hours into service-learning projects, schools can maximize the benefits for students and communities alike. This webinar will offer strategies to improve the community service experience by integrating best practices from project-based learning. Examples will showcase projects that put equal emphasis on service and learning, increase student voice and choice, and strengthen ties between students and their communities. Presenter is Suzie Boss, a member of the Buck Institute for Education National Faculty, co-author of Reinventing Project-Based Learning, and a frequent contributor to Edutopia.org. [Time: 32:16]
Watch the video »Authentic Literacy and PBL
Project based learning is one of the best vehicles for providing powerful, authentic literacy experiences across the curriculum. Students who experience opportunities for authentic literacy show higher growth in both comprehension and writing. In this Webinar, Sara Hallermann will lead you through an exploration of high-impact elementary and secondary sample projects in which students read truly authentic texts and produce writing for audiences who want and need the students' written work. You'll see the power in this practice and will learn tips for designing projects that incorporate authentic literacy experiences for your students. [Time: 32:16]
